Health and Illness Across the Lifespan
Interview with an Asthmatic Patient

With the main aim of creating a valid report on the prospective of chronic illness coping
strategies, the impact of the chronic illness and how best a patient can cope with it, I did carry
out a precise interview with an Asthma patient and I made a critical analysis on the mentioned
topics of discussions drawing m ideas basically from the interview below:
INTERVIEWER: Good morning? I am a student who is currently carrying out a research on
chronic illness conditions of patients and today I am honored to have been accorded warm
welcome by both yourself and the family.
PATIENT: Good morning, My name is Henry, a sixteen-year Asthma patient since childhood
and am as well grateful for your honored visit.
INTERVIEWER: Quickly into my reason being here. Would you be so kind to describe the
condition of the disease?
PATIENT: Asthma is a chronic condition in which a person's airways become inflamed, narrow,
and swell, as well as produce excessive mucus, making breathing difficult. Asthma may be
moderate to extreme, causing trouble in everyday activities. It may result in a life-threatening
attack in some situations. Asthma can cause respiratory issues, chest pain, coughing, and
wheezing. Symptoms can flare up from time to time.
INTERVIEWER: Thank you so much for the vivid description, and what are the impacts of this
condition to patients like yourself?

PATIENT: Young patients (between the ages of 12 and 17) like me are more affected by asthma
than adults, which may be attributed to inadequate medication adherence. This illustrates that in
order to increase medication adherence for young patients, a more tailored approach is needed.
Lower participation in athletics, physical exercise, social events, and everyday activities, as well
as school/work truancy, are all detrimental consequences of asthma on us
INTERVIEWER: How do you understand the coping aspect and how effective has it ever been
to you?
PATIENT: Coping involves making a deliberate attempt to address personal and behavioral
challenges in order to master, eliminate, or accept tension and confrontation. In asthma just like
other chronic illnesses, it is possible to cope with the condition. This can be best done by
Maintain a safe lifestyle. Physical activity is important. It is important for good health, even
though it might be a catalyst for others. Keep an eye on your weight. Obesity is linked to asthma,
and weight loss can actually improve asthma control. And don't smoke. Check up with the doctor
on a daily basis. Inquire about having a flu shot once a year.
INTERVIEWER: Thank you so much for sincere time and a great impact tips that will be more
effective to my studies.
PATIENT: You are more than Welcome.

a) To what extent does coping research provide consistent evidence that specific ways
of dealing with chronic illness are more helpful for patients?
A primary reason for coping is determined by the response and the material difference
made to the future development in the event of the client being faced by adversity. If the victim
is overwhelmed, the victim can be more susceptible to subsequent psychological challenges and
illnesses. If they rise to challenge, however, they can become hardened, improved, and more
resilient to potential threats and difficulties. In line with the principle of host resistance in the
analysis of whether exposure to germs contributes to disease or immunity, the concept of coping
applies not to the liabilities and assets that the victims carry to their adversity dealings but rather
to how they specifically cope with the material obstacles, failures, and every day ground faced
issues. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the empirical and conceptual progress of coping
development study and to recognize significant aspects in which researchers studying the
development of resilience and psychopathology may benefit from this work.
These multiple forms of copying, such as negotiation, accommodation, problem-solving,
confrontation, help-seeking, and escape identifies along the episodic arc stress particular
transactions and propose a range of mechanisms by which hardship may interfere with
individual capital to establish long-range liabilities or rather assists individuals in developing
lasting skills in tress management. Coping has been conceived in the relationships between stress
and psychopathology as a mediator, moderator, reciprocal, and mechanism process. I, therefore,
interviewed a long-t
